Kilimanjaro Cold

Bob and I decided early on to take the tourist or 'Coca-Cola' route up the mountain. You have a choice of doing it in 5 or 6 days. The 6 day hike includes 1 day for altitude acclimization between 12 and 15 thousand feet. I thought it best to do 6 days since I live at 1000 feet. I think it was a wise decision. No, I KNOW it was a wise decision! Both Bob and I had trouble at the top. We both got a bit of a headache and were short of breath. Brother Bob taking on water

But the worst part was that, during the plane ride to Nairobi, I picked up a head cold.

I gave it to all the girls, including Jane, and when I got home, I gave it to Deb as well!

Fog in the afternoon

The good news is that it did not go down into my lungs. Still, it's inconvenient to hike up a mountain with your nose running.

I took along a bunch of hankies, but wound up blowing snot on the ground like I saw the VP of KCC do one day. It was easier than having to hand wash hankies in cold water, which I did the first couple days. I hung my wet hankie on my backpack and it actually dried while I walked at lower elevations. But I knew it wouldnt dry and just might freeze the higher I got.

So I blew snot all over Kilimanjaro.
