VALENTINE AND ELIZABETH SARTORIUS
1783

Valentine and Elizabeth Sartorius arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia on December 8, 1783 aboard the transport ship Prince of Orange, which set sail from Plymouth, England. Originally, they sailed from New York on the Thomas, but were driven off the coast of Nova Scotia and ended up in England. Valentine, a private, and his brother Ludovic, a drummer, were members of the 3rd Battallion of the 60th regiment of the Royal Americans, which was comprised primarily of German citizens. Ludovic leaves no record for us to trace.

Valentine and Elizabeth Sartorius lived in Sydney County, Guysborough Township, Nova Scotia on lands granted by King George III of England as payment in part for services rendered during the Revolution. At the time Valentine and Elizabeth received their land, other members of the 60th regiment of the Royal Americans received similar grants. Land grants were given based on number of family members. The last record of Ludovic is found when he too received property under this grant.
